About Us
Saabat Gallery, is moving forward with a civic agenda, to connect art, people and ideas to make the world a better place. We put art into action. We work with the community to address current issues within politics, economics and culture. Our programmes encompass urgent themes such as housing, migration, inequality, regeneration and healthcare. We offer changing exhibitions, learning activities, projects, and community-focused initiatives that involve many artists and publics. These programmes promote creativity for everyone in ordinary life, through education, debate and making. Part of South Bank community, we are developing relationships with constituencies in Redcar and beyond. Our ambition is that these help us shape who we are: a public site, open and accessible, diverse and inclusive and used by all.
What You Need To Know About Saabat Gallery
The transformed function of the Art Gallery in the Covid-19 era
“Lockdown is teaching us how to review in our function as an artist and art gallery, and also how to avoid to be useless during the crisis”. Our action comes before what we saying.
Last month we offered some spaces at Saabat Gallery building up aid for those who are most disadvantaged through this crucial time, for any kind of purpose be it emergency action, food banks, storage spaces …etc
– In a very short space of time we had an inquiry from the charity organisation.
(Tees community clothing) to use one of the rooms at saabat, which meant they could successfully jump into full action.
– In these last few days we have had another inquiry and request by charity organisation called (Tees Valley Together – PIPSCO – Teesside Emergency Food Parcels).
They asking if we have a place for them also, our answer was of course yes, so right now they’re also in action at the gallery.
As we have always promised as artists and as a community art gallery, we will continue to protect, empower and work alongside our community above all else. The positive feedback from community make us to be proud of our action in which the gallery has become useful and its service to the community are alive once again. The images below may look like an art installation however this time the audience will be those people in real need of our help.
