History
Saabat opened to the public on 1st January 2014.
The Settlement, on Normanby Road, was a former Methodist chapel then drop-in centre for the unemployed in the 1980s and 1990s and has endured a chequered history in recent years, standing empty for a time.
But now, after being taken on by Iraqi artist/ sculptor and Teesside University graduate Azad Karim Mohammed, it is beginning a new era as a community art gallery.
“This should be a celebration of the area’s history and a time of building upon that with new ideas and skills, just as this building is once again changing its identity and usefulness into a community gallery.
